The Jeffrey Town Integrated Disaster Risk Reduction Project was developed through a proposal led by the Jeffrey Town Farmers Association (JTFA) on behalf of the Jeffrey Town Community Development Committee (CDC), in Jeffrey Town St. Mary, Jamaica

Jeffrey Town is a rural, agricultural community located in the hills of Western St. Mary. The community comprises of 9 districts and has a population of approximately 3000 residents.

Within the past 20 years, members of the community have been regularly impacted by floods, landslides and droughts in addition to hurricanes and periods of water scarcity.

About the Project:       

The Jeffrey Town Integrated Disaster Reduction Project (JTIRRRP) is a two – year project financed through donor funds from the Caribbean Disaster Risk Reduction Fund (CDRRF)/Canada and UKaid and administered by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).

Main Partners are:  Ja REEACH, Rural Agricultural Development Agency (RADA), Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM), Social Development Commission (SDC), National Works Agency (NWA), Ministry of Health (MoH) and the St Mary Parish Council.

A Project Management Team (PMT) manages the everyday activities of the project in conjunction with the executive of the Jeffrey Town Farmers Association.

Project Grant: US$649,696.00

Project Duration: Two Years  – March 2015 to March 2017

Project Objective:

To lessen the impact of Climate Change on Jeffrey Town and its 9 districts by:

(a)        Building Climate Change resilient Infrastructure

(b)        Strengthening Food Security & Livelihoods

(c)        Enhancing capacity in Disaster Risk Management through awareness and knowledge dissemination among all population groups       including the elderly, women, children and the disabled.
